An unusual play by Christopher Durang and every actors nightmare - being on stage and not knowing what the play is or any of the lines. The set was simple, just black curtains & lighting, with a harassed Stage Manager (a good performance from Elizabeth Metcalfe) trying to get the show on. The Actor, who wished he was anywhere but where he was, was played with great expertise by Gavin Jones. The rest of the cast Cassandra McClintock, Amanda Martin, Ian Chisem and Nigel Morgan were all excellent and added to the poor Actors unhappiness. The unseen voice ( Brenda Anderson ) was allowed to take a bow at the end which she did with great panache! The whole was a very good and entertaining performance and was acknowledged by the Adjudicator of the Nidderdale Drama Festival by awarding it Best Play and Kathryn Leigh the Best Director . The Knaresborough Players will now present this play at the Northern Semi Finals of the All England Theatre Festival in Saltburn-By-The-Sea during 24th & 25th May. We wish them well.
