This was the second production to feature Woodlands’ Juniors, playing for one night only.  I think I counted 17 young people on stage (although the programme credits 19), with an inevitable balance of 5 boys to 12 girls, all of whom worked their socks off over the course of approximately 90 minutes.

Whilst the show’s programme gives a full list of all participants, I wasn't able to attach many names to any particular item.  I did, however, recognise one participant, Em Alderson, who I've seen more than once, in the society’s annual pantomimes.  As a result, Em is very comfortable on this stage and was confidant as the main (but not only) compere, as well as taking part impressively throughout the production.

The show was in Two Acts.  Act One comprised two items, the first being a very amusing (and speedy) Romeo and Juliet – Sped Up by Hannah Thomas.  I believe every member of the cast had a role in this precis of a Shakespearian classic.  Fortunately, most of us are familiar with the plot and managed to follow, as it very quickly and hilariously unfolded.  Then, the second item showed us how most pantomimes revolve around a similar group of characters - in Every Pantomime That Ever There Was by Tony Domaille.  Also cleverly done, involving everyone in the company and very entertaining and amusing.

Act Two was called The A to Z of Musicals.  Another fast moving compilation, this time from a variety of musicals.  One of the funniest moments was, however,  when a prop suitcase failed to co-operate. Two boys (Daniel Dixon and Lucas Bulmer) were on stage with said suitcase which one of them tried but failed to open.  His companion didn’t notice this and, a short while later, also tried to open it.  At this point both lads struggled to stifle a fit of the giggles which became almost uncontrollable and spread to the audience.  If the show had been running for a few nights, I might have suggested they leave it in, unchanged!!

It is a little unkind to highlight something unintended but I thought the boys dealt with it with some panache and definitely got the audience on their side.  I also need to say the entire company was full of enthusiasm, showed great energy and had clearly learned a lot of lines, moves and musical numbers.  Their enjoyment and enthusiasm definitely spilled over into the audience.  A most enjoyable evening.  I hope to see more shows from the Juniors in future years.  It would also be good to see some (all) of them stick around and move on up into the adult shows, as time passes.  Well done, everybody.
