This well-crafted concert showcased the talents of SSGS from the very young to the more mature members. It is testament to the production team who created a very enjoyable evening’s entertainment that the time seemed to fly by. Andrew Clarence played keyboard as well as conducting his four-strong combo which produced a nice sound as a background to the ensemble. Choreography was in the very capable hands of Julie and Natalie, and many of the numbers benefitted from their tuition. Lighting was very colourful and matched the mood of the music, sound reinforcement was crisp and clear, all the more impressive in that the technicians only came in at the last minute because illness forced a change.
Compère for the evening was Bob Stott whose ‘Geordie’ humour amused the audience and provided the links between the musical numbers.
The talented 38 strong company worked hard and there were harmonies evident throughout the evening using content consisting of musical numbers and medleys whose titles ranged from A to Z. This varied content allowed for many soloists and groups to excel, none more so than in some of my favourite pieces of the evening - “Evergreen” by Sarah Kectchin; “Just Arrived” from Hannah Shaller and the ladies; “Til I Hear You Sing” by Graeme Kinnibrugh, and the truly superb “Wicked” medley. A special mention must be made to the nine young ladies who proved themselves worthy of their inclusion, especially the diminutive Holly Skiggs who led in the “Naughty” number.
Well done to Gwyneth and the rest of the production team for a well designed and delivered concert.
