When I arrived at the Forum Theatre to watch Teechers, I was greeted by a deliberately simple set: three school desks, chairs, appropriate backdrops, and minimal props. This unassuming staging perfectly framed the story of a drama class in a high school situated in a less privileged area. The play is a three-hander, with each cast member skillfully juggling multiple roles in this tale of a pivotal final year.

Teechers chronicles the journey of a newly qualified drama teacher, charting his experience from the start of the academic year to its conclusion. The play’s charm lies in its comedic brilliance, brought to life by the exceptional performances of Liv Barton (Gail), Megan Voss (Hobby), and Jack Findlow (Salty). Impressively, the trio embodied an array of 21 characters (by my count!) with such confidence and conviction that each role felt distinct and authentic.

The standout element of the performance was the actors' strong characterisation and their remarkable agility in transitioning seamlessly between roles—an achievement that undoubtedly reflects the expert direction of Richard Parker.

The chemistry among the three actors was palpable, and their pacing and delivery of the sharply witty dialogue were superb. That said, the rapid-fire script did occasionally result in dropped words, which could obscure a punchline—but it hardly detracted from the overall experience.

A highlight for me was the emotionally charged final scene, in which the students strive to convince their beloved drama teacher to remain at their underfunded school rather than departing for a more affluent one. This moment resonated deeply, adding layers of poignancy and frustration to the narrative and leaving a lasting impression.

In conclusion, I thoroughly enjoyed Teechers and eagerly anticipate what the future holds for this talented team.
