This was a rare treat, to sit amongst an all adult audience and laugh at naughty things we shouldn’t really laugh at! The pantomime was an original and well-crafted script written by the very talented Dan Wainwright. The show was very well staged by the directors, the music choices were excellent and well-presented and were backed by a very good three-piece band. The choreography was to a very high standard throughout. All the production team have clearly worked very hard indeed.
The cast all had well-defined characters and interacted well with each other. The star of the show, in my opinion was Dan Wainwright as Fanny the Fairy, Dan has a great rapport with the audience and I loved the “Hot Stuff” number. We saw a Gay Robin Hood played by Chris Taylor (my favourite joke of the night was when he explained why he was nick-named “Swish”) There was a very funny drunk Friar Tuck played by Alex Wiggins. There was an array of eight different principal girls who were all excellent. We saw six principal boys, who were equally excellent. The five villains were awesome! I loved every scene that they were in, especially the “Be Prepared” number.
The sets and props for the show were amazing, I can’t praise them enough! The costumes were excellent, as were the make-up and wigs. The lighting and sound quality was very good throughout the show. You have very talented production and technical teams, who have clearly worked very hard indeed. My one small criticism would be that act 1 was a little bit too long, but this is just a small observation.
Congratulations Irchester Players on what was a flawless performance. I don’t think I stopped laughing all night. Well done!
