It was obvious as you entered the auditorium that the Society had set out to create a night-club atmosphere with individual tables, white tablecloths and lighted candles. The scene was set, and from the moment the curtain went up we were in foot tapping mood. A programme of 50 or so songs took us from the swing era through to the rock and roll years, including some doowap along the way. All the music was well-known, especially to us of a certain age, and although it moved along at such a pace with lyrics being fast and furious, diction, timing and harmonies were spot on. In addition to all the super chorus numbers we were treated to some excellent singing from a sextet as well as quartets, trios, duets, and solos. One of several highlights of the evening was a tremendous rendering of a popular rock and roll hit by MD Mark, accompanying himself on the piano of course. I particularly enjoyed the contribution by doowapper Lee Wilson as well as Jenny Townend, Becky McLeod, Sophie Ward and Linda Wilson. A special ‘well done’ to Rebecca for great choreography, and colourful costumes completed the picture. Congratulations everybody. Very well done. Fab-u-lous!!!
