‘Sweet Charity’ has had a slight re-write since I last saw it and indeed since I was last in it. The set was simple but workable and I liked the screen updating the various scenes and the use of the cast to change scenes

Charity Hope Valentine (Amy Wilson) opened and closed the show, but in between she was rarely off the stage which she totally commanded with her all round versatility as a dancer, a singer and an actress. A delightful performance. Helene (Lindsay Easthope) and Nicky (Jessica Davies) added humour and sass to their strong characterisations and worked well together. Oscar Lindquist (Wayne Newton) gave an outstanding characterisation and showed his great versatility. The scene in the lift with Charity was so good. Vittorio Vidal (Kieran Lichfield) sang well and gave a solid performance without being over the top. Both Daddy Brubeck (Simon Preston) and Herman (Jason Goodall) gave good characterisations as did all the other smaller parts and especially the Fandango hostesses and the ensemble.

There were some great well known numbers in this show with some great choreography and all performed with great energy. I particularly enjoyed ‘Big Spender’, ‘Rich Man’s Frug’, ‘If My Friends Could See Me Know’, ‘There’s Gotta Be Something Better Than This’, ‘Rhythm Of Life’ and ‘I’m A Brass Band.

This was a really good show and congratulations must go to all the production team of Artistic Director, Wayne Newton, Co-Director, Rebecca Witty, Choreographers Sophie Haigh and Wayne Newton, Music Played and Recorded by Robin Parish and Costumes, Carol Witty. Thank you Wilton for a wonderful evening’s entertainment.
