Sunshine on Leith proved to be another great success for the company superbly led by Andrew Tasker and Chris Cairns as soldiers Davy and Ally returning to civilian life in Leith, balancing the effects of war from military action in Afghanistan. Strong performances were provided by the two love interests in their lives Liz, Davy’s sister (Louise Stephenson) and Yvonne, Liz’s nurse colleague (Lesley Kettles). All four interacted well together in facing their immediate ups and downs. Carol Sutherland and Will Speirs provided great meaningful performances as Jean and her long suffering husband Rab Henshaw, dramatising the torment of recently discovering Eilidh the illegitimate daughter Rab never knew he had, ably played by Elaine Dawson who gave a bright and optimistic performance. Although the set was kept minimalistic, it did not detract from this funny, vibrant, energetic piece of musical theatre set around well-known Proclaimers numbers which the entire company delivered with drive and enthusiasm, supported by a five-piece band. All on stage were genuinely enjoying themselves through drama, singing, and choreography and I am sure the entire company and the production team must be pleased with the end result in what provided a wonderful evening’s entertainment.
