If you have attended any Clitheroe Parish Church Operatic & Dramatic Society performances, you will be forgiven for expecting a high standard of entertainment. Well, today was no exception.

The choice of songs from musicals old and new, was excellent: the multi part harmonies and solos, directed and sung beautifully. There was something for everyone’s taste, from musicals, old and new and the packed audience in St Mary Magdalene Parish Church, Clitheroe, loved everything they heard and cheered and applauded to prove it.

Not every singer gets to, or even wants to perform on a stage in a show. There are those who just love to sing. Well, this was an opportunity to do that, as part of a group, or even give a solo performance for the very first time.

Everything about this Summer Serenade was expertly created and directed by choir master, David Hulme, with accompaniment provided by Trevor Lord. I wasn’t going to single anyone out, because everything was so well done, but I made an exception for these two.

It’s hard to believe that this choir was created, just to fill in the summer months and keep the company together between productions. It was first formed in 2022 and after just four months of rehearsals, with one public performance under their belts, they reached the final of the Lancashire Choir Of The Year. It was decided to do it again this year and once again after four months, an excellent afternoon of entertainment was delivered.

Thank you for a very enjoyable afternoon. I look forward to attending future productions at Clitheroe.
