As always this small group of 11 adults and 6 juniors entertained with a delightful concert. The programme was very varied with musical numbers which were popular some time back and modern favourites from the present day.
One of the most commendable things about this company is that nearly everyone on stage had the opportunity to sing solo whether it be an entire song or just the odd line in a number. Everyone is given a chance. It is very much a team effort.
I have to congratulate young Caty Kerr on her vocal arrangements of some of the numbers and she certainly brought out the best in the group. The chorus singing was strong with the part harmonies and blend of voices very clear.
The ladies chorus was in fine voice in ‘Anti-Hero’ (Taylor Swift) while the small male chorus had fun with ‘Uptown Girl’ (Billy Joel). The full company exuded confidence and enthusiasm in ‘San Francisco’ (Scott McKenzie) and ‘From Now On’ which resounded through the Priory Church. ‘Sound of Silence’ (Simon and Garfunkel) really demonstrated the strength of the choral singing.
The junior group may be small in number but are a very talented group of youngsters who obviously enjoyed their number ‘Hit Me Baby One More Time’ (Britney Spears) when individuals were given a line or two each to sing. It is so encouraging to see young up and coming talent and I’m sure Owen McCormack and Cameron Bark are stars of the future. ‘Celestial’ (Ed Sheeran) was excellent. Another impressive performance was young Roisin Horseman’s ‘Through The Barricade’ (Spandau Ballet). A difficult song but Roisin nailed it.
Claire Guckian’s ‘Torn’ (Natalie Imbruglia) was sung with great feeling. Helen Burns made a good job of ‘SkyFall’ (Adele) and Caty Kerr was captivating in her rendition of ‘She Used to Be Mine’ (Sarah Barellies)
David Ritchie on keyboard and guitar accompanying by Lorraine McCann and Cameron Aitchison all added to the charm of the concert.
The final ‘You Will Be Found’ led by the clear voice of Cameron Aitchison rounded off a most imaginative programme which was delivered by a company who sparkled and gave it their all.
A wonderful way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Thank you .
