The First Act team are always very welcoming and the atmosphere in the theatre was one of high anticipation. The audience, of around sixty, knew they would be in for a treat. The colourful programme informed us that we were in for an action-packed evening of entertainment.
The show had been cleverly constructed to incorporate the various talents within the cast. Using television favourites, namely, Strictly Come Dancing, The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent, the cast of twenty-seven, plus helpers, took us through auditions, behind the scenes as well as live shows. There were judges from the respective shows, plus comperes, all using their respective catch phrases to great effect.
The cast wore black tee-shirts, with a gold star on the front teamed up with colourful trousers. They all looked splendid.
The backdrops comprised either theatre seating or colourful and sparkling lighting, both of which were effective for setting the scenes for the relevant shows. There were minimal props, the emphasis, rightly, being on the performers, but there must be a mention of the green guitar which stood out and was ‘played’ with relish.
Showcasing their individual talents, we were treated to a wide variety of acts, including magic, a performing dog, instrument playing and some excellent singing and dancing. The choreography throughout was of a very good standard. The medley of Rocket Man, Stop in the Name of Love, Baby Love and You Can’t Hurry Love was superb and finishing with a wonderful rendition of Can’t Help Falling in Love was a great choice and sung beautifully.
It would be impossible to name any individual because they all clearly put their heart and soul into each performance. There was clear enjoyment, enthusiasm and energy together with obvious support for one another. The interjection of ‘The Cheeky Girls’ appearing from time to time was very amusing. Likewise, Louis Walsh being pursued by a fan brought great laughter from the audience. The whole show was full of fun and joyful to observe.
As ever, it was a pleasure to watch the culmination of the hard work that obviously went into this production. Full credit must go to the staff and care supporters involved with this group.
Well done to everyone involved. Long may they continue to entertain and uplift their audiences.
