The company put their heart and soul into their production of this well known play about an ill-assorted group of people who, every week, enjoy the company of each other and, in doing so, enjoy the thrill and excitement of their time at their local tap dancing class. We followed the trials and tribulations of this motley assorted group and also learned of their troubles and woes through their personal life stories as they try to achieve, together, a perfect dance routine to be performed in public. Gwen Teppett brought forth the laughs as Dorothy, an enthusiastic dancer who was always out of step with her timing of the dance moves. Claire Rioch was the frustrated dance instructor (Mavis) always at odds with cynical piano player Mrs Fraser (Lynne Binnie). Then there was the orderly Vera (Rhona McCullum) always cleaning up and an expert on toilet cleaning! Seonade Sparey (Sylvia) was a very modern lady with a great outlook on life and Annie Bottoms as Andy showed a nasty temper when aggravated. Add sterling performances from Heather Malloch (Lynne); Susan Robertson (Rose); and Cath Eddie (Maxine), in their roles, and the cast was complete . . . except for the one single man who was also a member of the tap dancing class . . . Brian Boardman showed his vast stage experience in his role as the shy and retiring Geoffrey. The highlight of this play is the final “dance” finale presentation and the full company proved their worth in their tap dancing razzle dazzle routine - and how the cast looked to be thoroughly enjoying themselves as they achieved their dancing ambition. Next stop . . . “Strictly”?!
