Stepping Out is a comedy by Richard Harris. The play concerns eight individuals from disparate backgrounds and with differing motivations who attend the same weekly tap-dancing class in a dingy North London church hall. At the beginning the participants show little or no coordination and spent more time socialising. The progress of the play shows improvement in the skill level but the relationships get a bit ragged. The dance routines remain the focus of the play whilst each of the characters has their own individual problems.
The whole evening was a delight - the attempts to tap dance, the interaction between the different women and the lone man in the midst of all the angst. The audience were engrossed throughout the evening willing the tappers on to achieve perfection. The end of the play was the culmination of all their efforts. Congratulations to everyone involved for giving the audience a thoroughly entertaining evening.
