Revolving round Truvy’s Beauty shop between April 1986 and November 1988, this play tells the story of six women and the way that their lives come together. As the title suggests the characters can be as delicate as a Magnolia but as tough as steel. Annelle (Rebecca Lucas) is hired by Truvy (Jenny Culligan) to work at her beauty shop. M’Lynn ( Clair Tregellis) and her daughter Shelby (Fay Mason) call into the shop as its Shelby’s wedding day and she has to have her hair done. Also arriving at the salon are Ouiser (Margaret Jeffcoat) and Clairee (Helen Gilfoyle). Through the play we follow the lives of these women with unfortunate consequences. The six ladies in Clive Barlow’s production really brought the characters to live. With bright costumes and a wonderful set, this company should be proud of their production.
