This NODA Pantomime Script by Robert Marlowe presented a challenging task for this well established and talented Company.
There was clearly a very strong Production Team who had worked tirelessly to produce an excellent Pantomime. Beverley Yates, Director and Lewis Hampson, Assistant Director had worked closely with Musical Director, Judith Oakes and Choreographer, Jennie Barnes to give the audience a slick, entertaining, colourful and vibrant show.
This traditional story by Lewis Carroll was well kown to many audience members whilst the younger audience were not so familiar with the book but had possibly seen the film. All were spellbound from beginning to end as the story unfolded and we were introduced to the various characters. There was a very strong cast who interpreted their roles with skill and enthusiasm.
Lauryn Parker as Alice held the stage at all times and portrayed her bemused character with confidence. Paul Regan as the White Rabbit was excellent as he rushed around the stage with great energy and great comic timing. I have seen Paul transform, over recent year, from a rather timid and limited performer to a very polished actor. Beth Wharton as Tweedle Dee and Kim Barker as Tweedle Dum showed their experience as they careered around the playing area, causing mayhem. The youngsters in the audience particularly enjoyed their excellent slapstick and comic routines. The Twelve Days of Christmas routine, together with The White Rabbit was first class.
Costumes and Props were splendid with a great deal of attention to detail, whilst make-up artists are to be congratulated on their skilful facial interpretations.
The Set design and construction were, once again, outstanding. The scenery by this Company, is always of a very high standard. Well done to all back stage for their efficient and speedy scene changes.
Ceire Edge had produced the film of the Cheshire Cat peering through the tree, played by Siobhan Edge which added another welcome dimension to the Production. Sound and Lighting were both very professional. The Ensemble work was very good and the dance routines were slick and polished. I particularly liked the routine with them dressed as a pack of cards. I also enjoyed the use of the middle aisle for many exits and entrances and for the vocal work of the Ensemble, especially in “Time Warp” . The choice of songs was excellent.
This was one of the most successful shows I have seen by this talented Company.
