What an enjoyable, relaxing afternoon's entertainment this was. The Great Horton Singers entertained us right royally with a selection of Christmas numbers and a few well known favourites thrown in for good measure.
The Compere, John Mason, had most certainly done his homework, very interestingly introducing each item. The programme started with a lovely rendition of 'Love Changes Everything'. The well controlled soft singing and harmonies, with excellent diction, set the standard of the whiole programme, which was delightfully varied from a rousing rendition of 'Rocking Around the Christmas Tree' to the solemnity of a beautifully sung Mozart's 'Ave Verum'.
There were plenty of comedic poem interludes. 'The Twelve Days of Christmas', 'The Grinch', and 'The Guard Dog' who was so busy guarding the tree and the stockings that he wouldn't let Santa down the chimney! But, I especially enjoyed a parody of 'The Night Before Christmas', where the parents were so busy making, eventually successfully, special toys for their children that they forgot that 'Batteries not included'.
The second half started with a Christmas Quiz and continued with the same excellent singing and choice of programme, really putting the appreciative audience into the true spirit of Christmas.
The whole afternoon was a delight to listen to, both the chorus and the various soloists were well controlled by the MD Clare Halliday and very well accompanied by Mark Bolland.
