It takes a society with guts and confidence in both their cast and their followers to choose a show which is not one of the usual ones seen, well I can definitely say Maltby MTG certainly have the guts and it paid off. This society is always willing to try something different and here we certainly had something different in Spamalot.

From the word go this was a laugh a minute and the entire audience loved it, there were some great performances from the entire cast, especially Richard Wilshaw as King Arthur, he was perfect for this and managed to capture every ounce of comedy as well as some fine singing. I especially enjoyed his song with Fiona Broadhead as The Lady of the Lake and the chorus, Find Your Grail; this was hilarious and loved by all. Fiona was a great Lady of the Lake who also performed a fantastic duet with Sir Galahad, played expertly by Barry Foster, The Song That Goes Like This. This song almost brought the house down they both played it with confidence and I am sure they enjoyed it as much as we did.

As I said earlier there were some great performances from the entire cast and without doubt this was as good as the professional show I saw a few years ago, one of the very funny numbers was Not Dead Yet with Michael Cahill as Not Dead Fred and the entire ensemble, this again was so funny and I am sure Michael will have quite a few bruises from being dragged around stage.

I enjoyed some outstanding performances from Kevin Jackson as Sir Bedevere, Josh Matkin as Sir Robin and David Taylor as Sir Lancelot who delivered a cracking song, His Name is Sir Lancelot with the ensemble and Prince Herbert played to the full by Andrew Trueman.

In his role of directing this piece Roger Hazelwood excelled himself to get everything from the cast, however, not only did Roger direct but when one cast member, David Mitchell who was playing Patsy, suffered a heart attack he stepped in to take over the part with only 5 days notice. Roger again excelled in this part, playing the buffoon to Richard Wilshaw's King Arthur, his rendition of Always Look on the Bright Side managed to get the entire audience singing along with him.

A massive congratulation to everyone in this production and a big thank you for a great evening's entertainment.
