On a chilly spring evening it was a delight to be transported by the company to the warmth of the South Pacific in Rogers and Hammerstein’s musical following the lives of the islanders and the American military personnel. It was good to see some new faces among the cast including Michelle Nardone as an excellent Ensign Nellie Forbush, who brought out both comic and sensitive sides of the character equally well. She was partnered well by the experienced Keith Ewan as the exiled French Planter Emile de Becque. Another newcomer was Paul Woods who played Lt Joseph Cable, torn between the prejudices of his upbringing and his love for the young native girl Liat, played by Heather Anderson in her first principal role. Comedy was in the safe hands of Ken Smith as Luther Billis whose antics as “Honey Bun” had the audience in hysterics. Also adding her “ten dollar” to the comedy mix was Audrey McWilliam’s Bloody Mary, again in her first principal role. Strong support was given by Jim Barnett (Capt George Brackett), Chris Hewett (Commdr Bill Harbison) and Willie Duncan (Lt Buzz Adams). The score is full well known songs and the singing by both principals and chorus was excellent. Thank you EMT for an enchanting evening.
