I remember this show with great affection as it was my first many years ago. What a stunning sight to be met with on entry into the auditorium, this was the most striking set for this show I’ve ever seen absolutely magnificent. The orchestration throughout was excellent and accompanied the principals and ensembles with great gusto. Alas this didn’t follow through with the costumes unfortunately, there were some blinding mistakes, and more attention to detail needed in this area especially uniforms. Nagana and Jerome were matched well and gave a good performance. Nellie Forbush (Kelly Herridge) endeared herself to the audience with really convincing facial expressions and ease of movement good strong performance, matched well alongside Emile de Becque (Mark Murphy) who gave a wonderful performance with a voice that would melt chocolate let alone the ladies in the audience what a striking role for you my sincere congratulations. Bloody Mary (Sara Worton) sorry this didn’t work for me there wasn’t any connection with the character and a little harsh for me personally. Liat (Gemma Conreen) again the wrong characterisation there was no naivety in the role at all more suited to the Kit Kat club, I thought you were going to eat Lt Cable (Alexander Clare) a very nervous and slightly insecure role, the white tee shirt didn’t work in the love scene. Luther Billis (Dan Grimes) a very accomplished role extremely funny characterisation indeed. Professor (Ron Makin) you made this part your own without upstaging anyone again very funny. Lt Buzz Adams (James Gibbons) a good strong part very good diction and ease of movement in the radio shack. The ensembles Nurses and Seabees gave good renditions in their appropriate numbers and moved with ease in the dance numbers. There was an excellent casting for Captain Brackett (Mike Hall) and Commander Harbison (Michael Mullan) who both gave an excellently seasoned performance. An enjoyable show overall.
Many thanks for your hospitality during my visit
