Xmas starts early with a joyous evening spent listening to the sounds of Woodseats. Once again, they bring sparkle andshine to the stage with glittery evening wear, seasonal red bow ties, plenty of jewellery and an abundance of talent.

Their format is simple and effective, a cabaret style evening, tastefully decorated tables, a mid-performance pea and pie, awarm welcome from all the front of house members and a wide selection of well performed numbers.

The whole production team should be thrilled with the outcome, dressed perfectly for the evening and not attempting to imitate costume per show which is now frowned upon. The whole evening of approaching 30 numbers was well planned and orchestrated by the whole company. The pace was maintained throughout, and the shaping and spacing across the wide stage during the full ensemble pieces allowed the audience to clearly hear the various harmonies beautifully.

Songs from shows including Chicago, Abba, Dear Evan Hansen, Six, Waitress, Oliver, Mame, Dream Girls, Jekyll & Hyde Funny Girl and many more provided the opportunity for solos, duets, small groups and full ensemble to show off their many talents.

Cabaret style evenings can be hard to produce, unlike a musical when you start at page 1 and finish at the end. These evenings start with a blank sheet of paper, hours of choosing and planning, ensuring the highest level of choice and opportunity whilst maintaining pace throughout.

Woodseats should be credited by encouraging so many members to have their opportunity to be in the limelight, some excellent performances from peaceful well-paced solos to lively group and full ensemble. I don’t like to mention any names in this style of evening and whilst we all, as audience members, would have our favorite’s this type of production only works by the involvement of many.

Having witnessed the level of talent on show I don’t envy the production teams challenge when they start the audition process for Beauty and the Beast.

Well done to one and all for a well-balanced brilliantly produced and performed evening of music.
