Sounds of the century was a concert performed by Workington Amateur Operatic Society celebrating 120 years of musical theatre and what a treat we were all in for, the show opened with a brilliant Tap dance from 42nd Street and it was so nice to see as we don’t get to see many tap shows. The cast consisted of Minis, Juniors and Adults and you could really tell all the hard work they must have put into this as it ran so smoothly going from one musical to another with no disruptions.
At one stage there was just over 100 people on stage and the movement for getting on and off the stage was excellent, well drilled and so precise.
There was so many talented people on stage it is impossible to mention everyone as I would be writing this report for days.
The first Act finished with One Day More from Les Miserables and what a powerful ending to any show, this had the audience applauding and cheering for what seemed like an eternity.
The second Act started with Welcome to the Rock performed by the cast of their up-and-coming production of Come From Away and this looks like a show not to be missed.
There were other great numbers in there from, Joseph, Chess, Grease and the Phantom of the Opera plus a lot more and every one of the numbers was Done excellently.
A very big well done to all the cast who worked so hard putting on a concert that would entertain all the people that came to see it.
Musical Director – Liz Condron done a remarkable job with the music and I dread to think how long she must have been working with the cast to have them singing so well.
But I must say even though the cast were brilliant and done a great job I must mention Robyn Miller and Jen Hawley-McGhee on the choreography; the dancing was out of this world. To have so many routines and different dances from a small number to large numbers showed how much hard work had really gone into this. All the dancing seemed to flow naturally, and every cast member knew exactly where to turn, spin, jump or tap and never once did it ever look untidy. A huge round of applause from me.
The show deserved its standing ovation at the end as you truly put on a great show.
