It was lovely to be back at Eyemouth for this year’s production of Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs. With some new young blood taking the production reigns, assisted by the experienced members, it was inspiring to see. In true pantomime fashion, the drama, music and dancing was superbly managed and costumes were stunning as usual from opening to finale.

Fairy Good Fortune, Kayla Aitchison, gave a strong performance with a sweet singing voice. The wicked Queen Avarice, Miah Hindhaugh,  was also perfectly cast, displaying the right amount of drama into her portrayal to get suitably booed and hissed for her malice. ‘Rotten to the Core’ was an excellent choice of song for her, which was superbly delivered.

The title role of Snow White was perfectly cast in Holly Drummond-Cowe. A large role in good hands with excellent vocal ability. I was very impressed at how beautifully she sung the very difficult  ‘Not While I’m Around’, an iconic Sondheim ballad from Sweeny Todd.

Bursting on stage in bright orange wig and costume, was the colourful House Keeper, Edna Bucket, comfortably played by  Andrew Calder. As per pantomime tradition the character was larger than life and comically costumed. An equally expressive and engaging performance was delivered from Heidi Blake as Court Jester, Chuckles. Lots of energy and audience engagement saw this wonderfully natural performer ‘Walk On Sunshine’ in the fabulous Act 2 opening.

A lively bunch of young songsters took the roles of The Dwarfs. Ebony Davie, Sophie Gibbs, Abigail Potts, Kaylin Davie, Katie Crowe and Flora Sidney gave stelar performances which I’m sure will be etched in their memories for years to come. Who would believe that cleaning the house could be so much fun with Snow White.

The cute but dangerous Slurp, Micah Davie, deserves credit for his role as do the comic duo Quill and Scribbles, who embraced their partnership and had the audience chuckling at the their expressive dialogue.

Prince Ferdinand, Anna Campbell, was well matched to his love interest. Vocally comfortable in  both solo and duet with Snow White, was a strong presence on stage.

Sophie Crowe, convincingly played and sang as Merlin of the Magic Mirror, only giving way to Edna and Avarice’s shenanigan during ‘One Singular Sensation’.

A massive well done for the audience engagement during the picnic scene. The kids loved the bear and shouted loudly to the joy of the adult audience.

The dancers were also a huge credit to the hard working choreographer and we all resounded in community singing to ‘Always Look on the Bright Side of Life’ and the finale, ‘500 Miles’.

A thoroughly fabulous evening’s entertainment. Many congratulations!
