I must start by offering my congratulations to Stagedoor for a most enjoyable traditional pantomime – there really was something for everyone, with a talented cast and a modern script – which retained all the traditional pantomime favourites which were enjoyed equally by the young and the young at heart! On the night I attended the approach to the theatre was very busy with excited children (and their parents) – all set to enjoy themselves – which they did – royally. It was SUCH a pleasure to see real community theatre in action, with totally inclusivity in the ranges of ages and experience, but all with one goal - to enjoy themselves and bring pleasure to so many others – not just their capacity audience (on the night I was there) but also the charitable organisation ‘Share a Dream’
There can be no more honest or critical audience than children – should their attention wane they will make their presence felt in a most disruptive way. No danger of that here, all of the audience were with the cast every step of the way happily booing Queen Cruella almost before she had set foot on the stage. I loved the sound over effect to create the ‘character’ voices, but one small note of caution they were occasionally somewhat muffled meaning we were unable to hear the words and the sound cues were sometimes a little late, I did unfortunately attend on the opening night which I am sure was the reason both for sound cues being a little late and some of the scenes being just a little slow in being changed but then, as that did not appear to detract in any way from anybody’s enjoyment, it really is just a point for your information.
The costumes were bright and colourful throughout and very many congratulations to the team responsible for designing and producing such colourful and well-fitting costumes, which looked excellent on stage.
I loved the effects in general ‘the man in the mirror’ which was just SO well done, and the forest scene with the plant just looked so impressive. Very many congratulations to Muddles and Sarah who reacted so well with each other and just as importantly with the audience, which really kept the whole thing moving along.
Taken as a whole, this was real family entertainment with lots of variety, which demonstrated some excellent touches, which left your large audience thoroughly satisfied, so as far as this reviewer is concerned, Mission Accomplished. Thank you for a most entertaining evening, and I do hope that the cast and crew enjoyed the evening as much as the audience clearly did! Thank-you
