This was Stephen Gillett's first time as a director and what a good start he had made. A happy well rehearsed production with everyone appearing to be really enjoying themselves.
A lovely group of young dancers were delightful to watch and to listen to. They had good dance routines and they all reacted beautifully to what was happening on stage.
Victoria Howarth made a very pretty Snow White and was teamed well with Sally Clegg as Prince Frederick. They sang well together and made an attractive couple.
We had humour from Dilly Dumpling (Steve Millward) and her cheeky son Danny Dumpling (Charlie Birkett) and also from wicked Queen Caligula (Nick Howell) and her sinister accomplice Black Wing (Rob Place). The wicked Queen was assisted in her evil deeds by comedy duo Bogwart (Ruth Birkett) and Stinkwort (John Wealdon) who made a good team.
All their evil works were foiled by trainee Fairy Goodheart (Hannah Child) and her mentor Wonderwings (Marjorie Inman) and as ever good triumphed over evil.
The Seven Dwarfs were a delightful group of children having great fun and I'm sure that the team I didn't see were equally as charming.
The production was greatly enhanced by the many lovely colourful costumes and with the help of some nice character make up this added greatly to the overall effect.
There was a sympathetic group of musicians who joined in with the fun and it was good to hear some new songs as well as the more well known ones.
The sets were varied and very colourful and the stage crew changed them quickly and efficiently.
All in all this was a fun evening and that is what pantomime should be about.
