What a lovely entertaining evening we had watching “Mawdesley Amateur Dramatic Societies’” annual Pantomime “Snow White and the seven Dwarfs. The show was introduced by the Magic Mirror  played by Lizzie Thomas and  as the curtains opened to a very good castle scene, home of Snow White and her step mother the Queen the pantomime was opened with an excellent dance routine performed by pupils from Rufford School of dance, who also went on to perform a number of well-choreographed entertaining routines by Lorraine Ryan throughout the production. The pantomime was Written by the very talented Emma Mean and the story included all the characters that we know and love as well as all the elements needed for a good family Pantomime. Muddles played by Nicky Wolstenholme  told us some of the background to the story and also introduced us to some of the characters  from the proverbial baddie in this case the wicked Queen Severina played malevolently but also with comedy by Debbie Wells who had a good rapport with the audience to the Heroin of the story Snow White played very well by Libbie Cowburn who also had a good singing voice, she was well compliment by Erin- Lee Smith as Prince Christopher of Hummigton,  both making a believable pantomime couple There was an excellent comedic performance from Finlay Robertson as the Huntsman who when joined by Mark Wolstenholme as Dame Pansy the castle cook made a very good comedy duo. However, the stars of the evening had to be the seven talented Dwarfs who performed with loads of enthusiasm and appeared to be really enjoying themselves immensely, they included Molly Jenkinson (Smarty) Alice Kay (Dippy) Rebecca Roe(Shattered) Will Lloyd (Chuckles) Olivia Smallshaw (Blusher) Ava Lloyd (Sniffles) and Hayley Gaskell as Cranky.  I must also mention Hilda McAughey who gave a very good believable performance as Queen Severina in disguise who also had a good rapport with the audience and the small chorus also produced some nice individual characterizations of their own. Diction and Clarity of words was excellent throughout so the audience could follow the story and the pace of the show was just right for this type of genre. There were only a few musical numbers in this show but they were performed well to backing tracks.

Scenery was effective and just right for the production and the venue and along with good technical input and colourful well thought out costumes contributed to the success of the production, well done to all the backstage crew.

The success of any pantomime can be measured by how much the audience enjoys the show. in this case the audience on the night I visited certainly enjoyed themselves with plenty of boos, oh no it isn’t and loads of its behind you.

Congratulations to Emma Meen for a very enjoyable Pantomime and well done to all involved in this production, thank you for inviting us and making us welcome.
