D.E CAVERSMILL THEATRE COMPANY –
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Wednesday 21st December 2022
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, from the pen of pantomime writer extraordinaire Alan Frayn closes DE Caversmill Theatre’s 2022 with a touch of pizzazz. Always humorous and traditionally presented, the way pantomime should be.
Siobhan Hammond as Snow White; instantly embodied the much-loved role, good interaction, and empathy with the rest of the cast. Encompassing the naivety of the role very well indeed.
Snow’s nemesis, the oh so nasty evil incarnate Queen Avarice, devilishly portrayed by Kirsty Heath, sipped her boo’s with a jaunty nonchalance. This is panto of course, oh yes, it is, so the Queen’s come-uppance can’t be far away.
Our fabulously named Dame, Edina Bucket, Ian Hill; great costumes and cracking script for him to ring plenty of humour from, which he did to great effect. He knows how to work an audience.
Snow White’s love interest Prince Ferdinand, Susan Williams, took no truck from the plotting Queen, seeing her for the villain she was.
The Good fairy Natasha Stott, lit up the stage, beaming goodness vibes out every time she appeared.
Wesley Walker as Chuckles the Court Jester played a really good tongue in cheek part, the butt of many a joke.
Justice Quill and Scribbles respectively Chris Lockett and Nathaniel Forrester-Mills were excellent, great witty interplay, scared of the Queen’s shadows temper.
The Seven Dwarfs, The looked great, they were funny, their comic timing spot on. Barny Stannard, Phoebe Black, Kittie-Jane Downes, Isabel Young, Serraya Bergqvist, Ava Simpkin and Scarlett Dilks. Well done you were fabulous.
That just leaves Jacob Tomkinson and Martin Popov as Merlin of the Mirrors and Slurp. Good character performances.
The song choice for the show was really inspiring, well performed. Costumes, lighting and sound all worked well to create the right atmosphere for this classic fairy story. There were a few late mic fader dialogue issues, but nothing major. Great Support from the rest of the cast as usual.
Director Melanie Fox-Crowther together with daughter Choreographer Imogen Crowther created a great, visually pleasing production. Great movement and dancing throughout.
