The script for this years pantomime had again been written for the group by past member Reece Sibbald. He had taken into consideration the age and experience of the cast and came up with another laugh out loud telling of a traditional story.
The chorus and dancers provided excellent support to the principal cast with good singing, movement and dancing. The “Magnificent Seven” were adorable and the audience loved them, they had good clear speaking and singing voices and there was a lovely moment when Nappa, played by Holly Alexander, sang to Snow White.
Prince William, played by Mathew Tidd and Sir Edward played by Harry Brocklehurst gave strong performances and commanded the stage as all good royals should! Emily Furmedge as the magic mirror Fairy Twinkle looked perfect and sang beautifully and Aiden Probee as Oddjob, the Queen’s aide, gave an assured and confident performance. Becca Wharton was perfectly cast as Snow White; she had the right amounts of sweetness and strength of character together with a lovely singing voice. As Nurse Dotty, the Mary Poppins type nanny to the princess, Emily Smith was confident, had really good comedy timing and together with Jangles, played by Max Weatherhead, they kept the comedy flowing. Max took the lead comedy role in his stride; he had lots of energy and charisma ensuring that he had the audience on his side from his first entrance, his jokes were hilarious. As Queen Cruella, Cameron Burgess was outstanding, he completely embraced the character and gave a strong presentation of the evil queen owning every scene he was in and drumming up the necessary audience participation.
All of the musical numbers were good and I particularly enjoyed the “Dance with Me” duet with Queen Cruella and Prince William, “No One is Alone” Fairy Twinkle and “Move On”, Jangles, Nurse Dotty and the Ensemble.
Everyone was well dressed, and the production had pace and flowed really well. Congratulations to the production team and all concerned for a super traditional pantomime to start the festive season.
Councillors comments:
It was my first panto of the season and hence the season started with a flourish - well done to all for some very impressive characterisations by principals from the palpable nastiness of the Queen to the loveable nuance's of Nurse Dotty - all played their roles to perfection. Another sucessful production for the production team and cast alike.
