Director Stuart Clements and co-writer Marcus Hopper have once again achieved excellence with this production. From the offset the audience are presented with colour and sparkle. There are songs aplenty, well accompanied by MD Phil Hughes. Janice Regan’s wonderful choreography resulted in good routines for the cast members. What stood out were the wonderful colourful glitzy costumes which complemented the excellent scenery. The back stage crew, led by stage manager Ian Mackenzie gave seamless scene changes which were enhanced by the lighting and sound.
Daisy Cotton was graceful as Snow White with her melodic voice, while Laura Watson was charming in her portrayal of the dashing Prince Valient. Harcus Copper played Nursey to perfection with ever increasing eccentric costumes and wigs. Lyndsey Monaghan gave a powerful performance as the evil Queen Maleficent, revelling in the boos and hisses from the audience. The voice of the Mirror was Marcus Bentley who voice is most recognised as the narrator on channel 5’s Big Brother.
A twist from the norm were the seven dwarfs, except they weren’t. Snow White was smaller than all of them and their names were changed to Tony ( Neil Paterson); Tiny (Jeff Harwood); Twinkles (Lloyd Newstead); Macbottom (Peter Barlow); The wise and ancient dwarf (Stuart Clements); Justin (Alfie Murray); Neville (Ian Cronin). It worked though, as they each played their unique personalities with cheek and comedy. Valient’s Courtiers; Alison Monroe; Deanne Bradley & Donna Clements gave good support with their singing and dancing.
What more superlatives can one say about such a polished performance and although this was the last performance, the smiles on the cast were as wide as if they had just started the week. Well done to all concerned and a thumbs up from my grandson – what more could one ask?
