I was delighted to be invited to the opening night of one of our most popular pantomime stories. The mix of experienced principals with the youngsters playing the dwarfs worked well in this production. Adrienne Lean played Queen Devilla with gusto and deserved every boo and hiss she elicited from the audience. She was aided in her evil machinations by her ever faithful henchman, and secret admirer, Igor played by Sandy Dow. Comedy was in the safe hands of Ian Glover as Cora the Palace Cook and Ben Mortimer’s bouncy Sammy the Stableboy. Also adding to the laughter were Amanda Craib and Mawgan Lean as the hapless handymen Bob and Bitz. Snow White was played delightfully by Abbey Wright who along with Nikki James as Prince Philip made a handsome couple. Strong support was given by Leigh McLaggan as Snow White’s fairy godmother Fairy Nuff. The dwarfs – Bumpy (Anna Campbell), Lumpy (Ally Deas), Jolly (Megan Gillon), Tickle (Ritchie Craib), Raker (Robyn Leah), Snorer (Cameron Hector), Jingle (Andrew Berrecloth) – all played their respective characters well. The chorus all sang and moved well. Despite a few first night technical hitches (and a fire alarm evacuation 15 minutes before the final curtain!) the cast coped well and gave an entertaining performance.
