The good Fairy Poppins (a polished performance this from Seonade Sparey) tells us that the Princess Snow White has been abandoned by the wicked, high-pitched vocal Queen Malevola (Chloe Anderson) and taken to the woods by her evil henchmen, the daft Scratch and Sniff (Gavin White and Paula Jane Wales). From then on the fun begins when childhood nanny, Nurse Nellie (Stuart Young) enjoying his first Dame role, sets out to stop Malevola from poisoning her with an apple! Snow White, a charming performance from Ellen Ryder, meets up with the slightly dimwitted Prince (Craig McKirgan), and the Huntsman, performed by a dashing Fiona McRobbie, who turns out to be her real true love. We also meet the Six Dwarfs (well, the seventh Disney want to turn up!) who all played their roles with polish and verve. There were more kids playing the animals of the wood and all thoroughly enjoying the experience of being on stage; an eerie-looking Mirror Room with a superb illusion of the Magic Mirror (Donna Bell); modern pop songs to sing along to; ghosts to shout at; sweeties handed out to the young audience; and a falling snow scene for the show’s big Finale walk down. Yep, the Festive Season is definitely here!
