My visit to Sutton’s Green Hut Theatre company’s pantomime marks the start of “the festive” season for me.

This year’s pantomime – Snow White – was well written by the talented Philip Smith (who also plays the queen) and David Knights (who also directed the production).

Roxy Williams played Snow White with confidence.  Her suitor, Prince Stephen, was ably played by Emma-Jayne Byers, and their duets “Loathing” and “Who needs to dream” were a delight to listen to.

Snow White meets the seven dwarfs in the forest after they have all fled from the evil queens’ forces.  All of the seven dwarfs had lovely personalities – and their characterisations shone through (in this day and age where all things “Disney” cannot be performed!) – in the form of Sneaky, Moody, Tiny, Kapitan, Ditzy, Dusty & Phoebe.

The real “enemy” in this panto is “Mirror” – evilly played by Katrina Knights.  I particularly liked her song “With One Look”.

With great supporting roles from Dean Harness as Oscar and Francesca Tetley as Desmond, plus a cute White Rabbit (Maisy Harness) and chorus, this panto was a real family affair to be enjoyed by everyone both on stage and in the audience.

The scenery and costumes were bright and appealing, with a great use of props.  Clearly a lot of time and effort had gone into preparation for this production.

The band, under the musical direction of David Boddy, provided great musical accompaniment to the production.  They played sensitively so that every word could be heard by the audience, which is very important when there is so much going on on stage.

The audience really enjoyed themselves and there was a high energy level shown from the whole cast throughout the panto.  This made it an enjoyable experience for everyone in the audience.  Congratulations to everyone involved in the production.
