Neston Town Hall

Neston Town Hall audience of Mums & Dads, Grandparents, siblings and friends was buzzing with anticipation for the Theatre4All annual pantomime Snow White. We are introduced to the story by the Good Fairy newcomer (Lillie-May), ‘Once upon a Fairy Tale’ were we meet the residents of the village of Follywood. Ma Humbug (Julie) ‘Candy Man’, Dolly Mixture (Jennifer) ‘9-5’ her boyfriend Jammy Dodger (Judith).  Now every Panto has to have a Prince, we have Prince Sebastian (Hayley Watson Proud),’Love Story’ and his friend Marcus (Jess Southerland). Then of course there is Snow White (Zoe Aldcroft) ‘Love Story/Firecracker’. ‘I have a Dream’.  There is a cottage in Follywood were six cats live, Pops (Binny Williams) Brainy (Kathy) Grouchy (Charlotte) Copy Cat (Orlando) Sniffy Cat (Morgan) Smiler Cat (Betsy) they all live happily together.

This is Panto land so we need a villain: Follywood is ruled by Queen Aniseed (April Collings) who is obsessed that she has to be the fairest in the land. To ensure that this is correct she has a Magic Mirror (Anne) this is one clued-up mirror logging on to her I-pad to keep informed. Queen Aniseed after being told by her Mirror that Snow White is the ‘fairest in the Land’ vows that Snow White has to die. The Queen has three hapless henchmen, Bertie (Jonny Young), Basset (James Woodfin) and Liquorice (Alison Brown) she instructs them to kill Snow White. In true panto fashion they make a hash of it and Queen Aniseed steps in.  Queen Aniseed disguised as an old beggar women successfully poisons Snow White, she sleeps to be awakened by her true love which we all know is Prince Sebastian.

Now the genre of pantomime being what it is; it features silly, fast-paced physical comedy for children while sneaking in cheeky adult jokes and double-entendres. Audience participation is a must, especially booing the villain and cheering Snow White, we did not have a cow we had a Gorilla (Jen) who the children loved. The directors April Collings & Hayley Bamford) cast this production well, every single member gave their all to make this performance a success. Now we all know that a pantomime has to have a happy ending, this was no exception Prince Sebastian & his Princess are married in a wonderful ceremony attended by the all the Follywood villagers.

Theatre 4 All once again demonstrated the true value of community theatre, delivering a production that celebrated inclusivity, creativity and the joy of performance. The company provides a welcoming environment in which performers of all backgrounds and abilities can develop their talents and share their love of theatre. What shone throughout the afternoon was the enthusiasm, commitment and mutual support evident on stage, creating an atmosphere that was both uplifting and inspiring. Every member of the cast contributed to the success of the production, proving that theatre is at its most powerful when it brings people together. Theatre 4 All continues to embody the very best principles of community theatre, offering opportunities, building confidence and reminding audiences that the performing arts should be accessible to everyone. Their dedication, passion and sense of community deserve the praise.
