With this show Birmingham Youth Theatre welcomed two new members to their production team and I must say everyone on stage looked like they had been put through their paces with this well rehearsed enjoyable pantomime that contained every element you would want to see in the traditional fairy tale.
With so many talented youngsters to choose from I’m sure the production team must have found it challenging as always, on this occasion they were split into two dance troupes with another larger group as ensemble, woodland animals and villagers too numerous to mention individually but who all had an important part to play. We also had dwarf Moms! I really liked the different names given to the dwarfs. Mopey -Amelia Rosado. Slappy -Bobby Hayward. Wheezy-Finley Hill. Gok-George Beckett. Trumpy-Jessie Butler. Weepy-Maddy Sykes. Cashful-Talia Hockley. At any given moment the stage was absolutely full of smiling youngsters enjoying themselves, entertaining the audience.
Snow White was played by the lovely Sharouq Al Saffar with Ava Parker as Little Snow White. I really liked the way the mirror was played by Sophie Ashford. The Queen and The prince were played by Megan Allsop and Edgar Shirley respectively. There was also an entertaining performance given by Gethin Randerson as Muddles.Evelyn Palmer took the part of Narrator and Daisy Wright played Sally. Billy and Bobby were played by Alexander Lee and Alfie Phelan respectively, Freya Baylis, Sophie Terry and Lucy Jones making no less than twenty-nine principal and cameo speaking roles. Not forgetting Casey Michaela as the evil Lucrecia along with her strange sidekick Fleshcreep, Joseph Taylor who were both suitably booed at their every entrance.
The programme promised a pantomime filled with humour and memorable moments for all and it certainly delivered on that front. The music choices were super, the choreography energetic and perfectly fitting for younger dancers. Hilights for me ‘It Must Be Love’, ‘Let Me Entertain You’, ’Man I Feel Like A Woman’, ‘How Will I Know’, ’Go The Distance’ and the fabulous finale ‘We Are Family’.Congratulations and a big WELL DONE to all concerned on yet another fantastic show, with fabulous costumes as always, giving everyone on stage the opportunity to really believe that they are that character and bring their performances to life. Thank you once again for the invitation and your hospitality, can't wait for Footloose a show I’ve not seen before.
