This production by The Fullarton Theatre Company is a home written version of Snow White. Allan and Janet Scott have written this their third home grown panto, and as before it was excellent. The cast of 18 performed to the usual high standard we expect from this Company and made a very appreciative audience head home with smiles on their faces.

As usual the technical genius that is Allan Scott surpassed himself with his set and scenery. The moveable minimalist set was placed in different areas on the stage creating fresh scenes for the cast to get involved in, be it in the Palace, or the village inn. The creative use of back projection and in this show the magic mirror, was excellent.

Snow White (Stephanie Drummond) is the daughter of King Harold (Jason Reekie) who is a widower, and has married Queen Dierdre (Joyce Reekie). She, the Queen, considers herself to be the fairest of them all but the Magic Mirror tells her otherwise. Snow White is oblivious to all of this and carries on her life as normal. Mrs Bassey (Colin Wilson) is the palace housekeeper and has a fancy for the King but keeps that all in check whilst running the household. Her son Ronnie (Gavin Millar), likes Snow White but cant let himself tell her. The Queen is nasty to Snow White and eventually she has had enough and runs away. Meantime Chivers, the Chancellor (Idris Dean) tells the King that the kingdom is in a financial state due to the Queen overspending. When the King and Queen find out Snow White has gone he sends out Seargent Beattie (Tommy Thomson) along with his sidekick Corporal McLurg (Brian McArthur)to find her. The Queen hopes Snow White will have come to harm but the Mirror tells her to the contrary.

Meanwhile, Snow White has gone through the forest and escapes from the wolf (James Wallace) and comes to a village and takes on a job in the local inn run by Miss Molly Muffet (Kay Potts). She makes herself indispensable and becomes a favourite of the clientele Daddy Bear (Jim Gordon), Granny (Cath Monk), Red (Meghan Whalen), and the witch (Emma Middleton). Also in the inn is Barbara/Agnes (Linda Gordon) who is a pig and I liked the throw away comedy lines which makes her squirm.

When the Queen finds she is still not the fairest she makes herself into an old hag and traces where Snow White is and offers her the poisoned apple. Snow White bites into this and falls into a coma, to everybody’s dismay, and the Queen’s pleasure. However the witch intervenes and wakens her and Chivers who is a clandestine Karaoke singer manages to raise money from his singing to put the finances right. The witch also casts a spell to make the Queen into a good person and Snow White and Ronnie get together. In between all of this Dib and Dob (Alison Murdoch and Liz Black) who are the Palace handy men have been on the stage during scene changes with their comedy patter which was extremely funny and well received by the audience.

Subsequently everybody gets what they deserve and they all live happily ever after.

I was most impressed by the slick dialogue and the musical numbers in this show, along with Lauren Little’s choreography and I have to say the professionalism of the cast made this a very enjoyable evening. No show would go on stage without the back stage crew and the make up, costumes and lighting and sound delivered to the audience just go to make a show that wee bit special.

Thank you The Fullerton Theatre Company for providing a superb show and I look forward to coming back in the future.
