It is always a welcoming night out in Gala, no matter what show is being presented. Having been a very early member of the panto group many years ago it feels like a homecoming with a very special company of players. As years move on things evolve and new faces shine from the stage, and this year was no exception. The stalwart production team did their usual amazing job with new youth and long standing members alike. The company were, as ever, full of enthusiasm, which didn't wane from opening to finale and included some great lighting effects during the Company's 'Boom Diddy Boom'. Main character Chuckles (Jodie Miller) kept the panto tradition going with his cheerful disposition by making sure that his audience were always fully involved. The same went for the cuddly Edna Bucket (Andrew Thoms) who skilfully made the role of Dame much more comfortable than I suspect he ever thought possible. Well Done! Snow White (Emma Wilson) and Prince Ferdinand (Katie Chambers) both filled their iconic roles with elegance and confidence. They shone in their duets, and Snow White's solos 'Little Man....' and 'Make You Feel My Love' were also excellent. Some of the corny humour was dished out in spades by Scribbles (David Leckey), a stalwart who never fails to raise a laugh, and Justice Quill fell into the very capable hands of (Gordon Keddie). The Good Fairy (Amy Thomson) played a lovely part, and with the children, created a real highlight with 'When You Believe'. The Dwarfs were excellent throughout, keeping their individual characters no matter what the situation and raised smiles and laughter at their antics. You had to feel sorry for Slurp who was very well played by (Scott Robertson). Thankfully, his conscience was marked with good intention. And now to the real 'Baddy'!! Queen Averice was outstandingly played by (Val Smillie), giving a powerful solo with 'I'll Put A Spell On You'.....And we hissed her right through to the curtain calls!! A feel good factor always prevails with RATC as the Christmas songs flood from the stage wishing everyone 'A Merry Christmas'. Well Done Everyone.
