After a dramatic warning from Wicked Queen (Rick Mondeau) the show got off to a jazzy black and white choral opening giving the audience an idea of the size of the young enthusiastic company. Our introduction to cheeky Nurse Nora (Euan McIver) brought the audience to fits of laughter, which was to be only the start of her antics throughout the evening. Her expressive and colourful performance was in the true panto tradition, with most stunning outfits and wigs to make any professional production envious. Prince Florian (Ashleigh Wright) proved to be a wonderful character with great vocal strength and stamina, especially in the rendition of 'In this Life I Was Loved By You'. Snow White (Amy Clark) proved to have the sweet purity in her voice, befitting her character, and totally shone in the 'Happy Working Song'. And wow! They really hit the high notes with 'True Loves Kiss'. I never considered myself a prude but I'm not sure that the 'Raining Men' strip for a 'Queen' was quite appropriate for a family show, although the boys enjoyed shaking everything they had to shake!! No offence intended Rick. I much preferred the Nora and Queen duet 'Oh Lord it's hard to be Humble' and The Queen's fabulous solo 'Nobody Does it Like Me'. Hagar (Arran Robertson Kane) came in to his own with 'You Gotta Friend In Me' and the youngsters of the company performed a fantastic ghoulish dance, which was a credit to great choreography skills. The Dwarfs were outstanding, making Snow White their 'Welcome Guest' and never letting their individual characters slip. Their stripy black and white dance was great too. The all inclusive 'Shoop Shoop' song and 'Let's Dance' had TONS of energy for the finale. It was evident that everyone had given their ALL and that would have been a fitting upbeat ending. I was a wee bit concerned when the show continued on until 10.30, which I felt was maybe a bit late for the children in the audience. All in all though, the evening's entertainment was excellent. Thank You!
