This was another very enjoyable family pantomime from WADAMS. The show moved along at a good pace, and there were some fine performances and loads of audience participation.
As always Eric Finlay was an excellent pantomime dame, he also directed the show, I know how hard he worked. Elizabeth Corless was a very good Fairy Lilac, she set the scene very well, as did Sarah Deans, as wicked Witch Hazel. Hannah McLean was a very charming Sleeping Beauty and as always Kim Fisher played an excellent Principal Boy. Shirley McLean playing Muddles was a good knockabout and was ably backed by Josh Pattison and Gaia Holmes. To complete the principal cast, the King and Queen were well played by Maynall Weir and Adele Holmes respectively. A very good all round principal cast.
The young chorus played an important part and the singing and choreography was first class. I’m not a great fan of backing tracks, particularly with chorus voice-overs, I felt there were enough chorus people on stage to have the volume without the augmented chorus. MD Mark Hazzard did though, accompany the soloists.
Costume, scenery and sound were very good. The crew did an excellent job, and the pyrotechnic and special effects were excellent. The highlight of the show for me was the alternative version of ‘Twelve Days of Christmas, performed instead of the usual song sheet by the Dame and knockabouts. This was an excellent piece of pantomime fun.
Sleeping Beauty was a very good Pantomime, from the society, and having seen a number this season it rates very highly amongst the ones I’ve seen. Well done to everyone concerned with the production.
