The Priory Players yet again produced a pantomime of note, keeping a full house occupied , enthralled and enchanted with their production of Sleeping Beauty. The pace of the show was very good, the action never faltered and it was obvious that the entire cast were enjoying performing as they threw themselves into every facet of the show.
Princess Rose ( Katie Bradshaw ) and Prince Alexis/Alexander ( Catherine Thompson ) were everything one could wish in a leading couple, full of grace and charm.
The contrast to this were the roles of Muddles (Paul Tattersfield ) and Nurse Dottie Dettol ( Luke Cook ) who excelled in portraying the two comedy roles. The audience was continually laughing at their antics, giving them loud cheers and groans of sympathy when things did not go quite their way.
Fetch and Carrie, the supporting comedy duo, played by Thomas Carruthers and Luke Appleyard, also gave good performances.
However the star of the show has to be Sue Rowley playing the part of Witch Hazel, a complete change from her playing quiet roles as the Queen or Duchess. Her first venture in taking on the role of the evil witch was a great success and she was ably supported by Vicki Webb as the somewhat scatter-brained Fairy Lilac.
The chorus work was good with well organised choreography and singing.
James Greatorex, the Musical Director is growing in stature from show to show and I am sure that he will continue to be a major asset in the society.
Sound, light and scenery all added to give the show a well balanced production.
All in all a splendid evening’s entertainment.
