Forfar's 2013 production was written by former society members Tommy Baxter and Neil Stewart and was in the traditional panto style with thigh-slapping principal boy, outrageously costumed Dame, sparkling fairies, a chorus of adults and children and a lovely princess and, of course, the ever-threatening "baddie"" - a great menu for an evening of fun. The leading romantic roles were in the capable hands of Louise Rioch (Aurora) and Marley Laurie (Prince Valiant). Comedy was in the more than capable hands - and costumes of dame Nannie Knockers (Dave Mitchell), Chester the Jester (Ewan Philip) and Underling the Chamberlain (Christopher Hewitson), the latter two with particularly pleasant singing voices and clear diction. The three fairies in harmony, Fairy Snow, Fairy Cake and Fairy Nuff, were all well played by Susan Douglas, Lisa Callander and Louise Cumming respectively. The villain of the piece, Carabosse was excellently portrayed by Carolyn McLean who carried most of the musical content with an excellent singing voice and command of the stage and her well-named sidekick Stinky (Rhoda Burke). Add to all this a well drilled chorus, singing in harmony, a nice troupe of dancers all superbly coached by a new young production team and the result was a most enjoyable evening of theatre - oh yes it was!!
