Although entitled “Sleeping Beauty” there was nothing that was sleep-inducing or soporific about this pantomime - it had good pace and the players soon had the audience participating vociferously. The show contained an abundance of ‘corny’ jokes and included the essential slapstick. The lively music provided by Andrew Clingo and Andy Petrie provided strong accompaniments for the cast and encouraged the audience to join in the house song enthusiastically. The junior chorus made a significant contribution to this production demonstrating good stage presence; they performed their ‘underwater’ routine wearing novel costumes and realistically replicated the movements of Jelly Fish in water. The whole team in this production worked extremely hard with Brian Branch (as the dame – Penelope Pinchme) and Anne Fensom (as Oddjob) deserving special mention for their high octane performances – I think they must have had oxygen supplies in the wings. Well done! This was a very enjoyable evening of fun and laughter, just what was needed to lift the spirits at this time of year.
