A Magical Journey: Downfield Musical Society's "Sleeping Beauty"

Downfield Musical Society transported audiences into a world of enchantment with a lively production of "Sleeping Beauty," penned by Graeme Neil Smith.

This classic fairytale came to life with a charming mix of magic, comedy, and a talented cast that left the audience immersed in a delightful holiday spectacle. Carina Millar took centre stage as Princess Beauty, exuding grace and sweetness in her portrayal. The fairy blessings and curses were expertly delivered by Sian Johnstone as Fairy Gold, Karen Young as Fairy Silver, and the captivating Rebecca Smith in her first venture into an evil role as the malevolent Fairy Malicia. Alex McCunn complemented her perfectly as the faithful Minion, adding an extra layer of humour to the villainous duo.

Jem Clark, as Prince Valiant, brought a dashing presence to the stage and played the gallant hero with flair. The transformation of Fairy Malicia into a dragon added a thrilling climax, and the eventual defeat brought a triumphant conclusion to the classic tale. The comedic trio of Chuckles (Ross Lesslie), Buckles (Gavin White), and Knuckles (Fraser Patterson) provided the perfect balance of comedy capers, injecting energy and wit into the production. Their interactions, both with each other and the lovable Nurse Potty Pansy (Drew Knox), kept the laughter flowing throughout the story.

The energetic and festive atmosphere created by the cast of Downfield Musical Society added an extra layer of Christmas joy to the production. The seamless blending of magical moments, humorous interludes, and heartfelt performances resulted in a thoroughly entertaining experience for all. It was an energetic and fun-filled production that left the audience with a warm glow of Christmas cheer.

At the end of the Show The Society was presented with the Lumsden Trophy by the NODA Scotland Councillor Stuart McCue-Dick for their fabulous production of Kinky Boots earlier in the year. a fitting end to a lovely afternoon.
