It’s always a pleasure to visit Fairbourne Dodders for their annual panto as it is always evident how much the community love to support this show.

Sleeping Beauty had all the traditional elements of a panto including a baddie, beautiful princess, handsome prince, four fairies and of course, the panto dame! The story, of course, centres around Princess Snowdrop and the curse bestowed upon her at her christening by the evil Poison Ivy and how good overcomes evil with the usual happy ending!

Zena Schtyk put on a rather menacing performance as Poison Ivy and had the audience booing her at her every appearance! Sam Halfpenny was hilarious as Marigold the panto dame and had the audience laughing as soon as he appeared, the lapse in sticking to the script can be forgiven as Sam was able to cover any deviations perfectly and made it even more funny! Special mention here must go the Rachel Jennings, Vicky Crump and Amelie Godfrey as Nora, Ruby and Doris, three villagers/ cocktail waitresses who managed to help move the script along on more than one occasion!

Scott Broadfield provided comedy support as Marigold’s hapless son Andy who, of course, is in love with Princess Snowdrop, a princess with attitude and a mobile phone, played by Neave Colley but is thwarted by the appearance of Prince Rupert, George Bryan, who manages to win the girl, of course!

The comedy duo were played well by James Cartwright and Jacob Broadfield as Baskerville the dog?? And there was good support by other principal characters and members of the ensemble.

The set and lighting worked well, and the costumes were also suitably colourful.

Well done to everyone involved in this production. This was a thoroughly enjoyable evening’s entertainment, and it was lovely to see so much support for live entertainment.

I look forward to seeing you all again very soon.
