The Junior section of Walkerville Musical Society (Our Kids on Stage) put on an excellent original musical (written by Steve Halsay who also played brass in the band) about Hadrian’s Wall and the imagined ghostly characters that supposedly haunt it (and us). Narrated by a soaring James Metcalf, the cast of children and some adults took the delighted audience through imagined encounters with Roman occupiers and builders of the wall which spanned the years but resonated with the present. The cast sang and spoke clearly, were bright and attentive when on stage and showed discipline and enthusiasm (well done to the producers Joan Fothergill and Alan Tomkins and minders). The staging was crisp and efficient, the costumes attractive and realistic and the sound quality very good (helped by new equipment recently acquired). The whole show was a delightful experience enjoyed by the company and audience.
