I was delighted to attend this performance by the students of St John Rigby College who were being assessed for their B.T.E.C. exams.
The atmosphere of the piece was immediately created as we entered the auditorium where a baby’s crib and a beautifully decorated chaise longue were positioned on the playing area.
The original music by David Wall, Mark Lane and Ross Baillie- Eames had been composed some months ago enabling the students under the Direction of Rebecca McDonald,Teacher of
Dance and Acting, to interpret the story, as they rehearsed.
The entire cast had clearly worked tirelessly to produce a beautiful, sensitive and dramatic piece of theatre.
The costumes and props were spectacular and the dramatic lighting, sound and projections helped to create a real fairytale experience.
It was evident that many hours of rehearsal were involved with this Production and it was fascinating to experience the imaginative, innovative and freshness of the students’ interpretation.
There was drama and humour in the piece and I particularly enjoyed the baking scene where a cake was mixed and in no time at all a beautiful birthday cake was produced. Well done for avoiding the flour, which was inadvertently spilled on the floor and also dealing so professionally with Maleficent’s headdress which fell onto the playing area.
The whole cast was excellent and congratulations must go to all involved, on a very high standard of performance.
My wife and I had a thoroughly enjoyable visit and thank you so much for your very warm welcome.
