Six Teen has become a popular show for youth societies, with its positive girl power message, there is even a Spice Girl quote within the show, but it is one of the most vocally difficult shows to do well. Katsact did a wonderful job.
It is very hard to director and choreograph and Eleanor tried very hard to balance the tough choreography with the need to make sure the quick and quirky dialogue could be heard could be heard.
This show is so difficult as the harmonies are what make the songs stand out, from the first note until the last note the girls were well rehearsed and well taught by Freya Martin. Each harmony line was clear, and it sounded stunning! The biggest highlight of the show was when the girls sang together.
Catherine of Aragon was portrayed by Sade Banton, she had a great voice and lovely stage presence. She came alive when she sang, when she was delivering, she needed to slow down at times it was difficult to understand, and she did miss some of the comic lines.
Hannah Crone was Anne Boleyn. She had really thought about the delivery of her lines and she sang her song with a twinkle in her eye.
“Heart of Stone” Jane Seymour’s song in Six and Six teen has become a standout moment in both amateur and professional productions. Jessica Sarll has a good voice and can sing this challenging song, however this an emotional song that I believe is best sang static, letting the actress concentrate on her voice and getting this challenging song across. I personally believe Jessica moved to much throughout this song.
Tabitha Miller-George took on Anne of Cleves, and she has a tricky number that only works if the actress can rap with diction. Anne of Cleves song is probably the one song in the show that does not resonate with me, however I really enjoyed Tabitha’s performance and because she had great diction, I found the comedy elements of the song I had not heard before.
Charlie Ross played Katherine Howard, and showed she has a good voice and a superb stage presence, she commanded the stage. From the moment she came on she stayed in character; she was in the moment throughout the whole show.
Sophie Deane took on Catherine Parr’s tricky song. Sophie was outstanding this is a tricky ballad that she absolutely took advantage of it; this number was beautiful.
Claudia Gibb, Victoria Bardin, Charlotte Newis and Sophia Pang played the ladies in waiting. For me they blended into the background, it would have been good to have had them showcased more.
The costumes were designed by the cast, and I really liked them, really well thought out from head to toe, particularly liked Katherine Howards very striking.
The set was simple with the six in letter at the back and a throne. Unfortunately, where I was sitting the throne was masked by the heads of other audience members.
I really enjoyed meeting the cast and production team and seeing how much this show meant to all off them and thank you to the KATSACT team.
