Six - Teen Edition

We’ve all heard of the well known rhyme; divorced, beheaded died, divorced, beheaded, survived but what else do we know about the 6 wives of Henry VIII? Well, for those of us fortunate to grab a ticket for Take 2 Theatre Company’s production of Six - Teen Edition, we know a lot more, as these 6 Queens gave us a HER-story lesson in the most breathtaking of ways. 

Six it’s a contemporary musical in the style of a pop concert. The six wives are taking part in  a singing competition to see who suffered the most from their Husband, the King. However, underneath its a story about female empowerment and to claim their individuality back, and not be just known as a wife of Henry VII. 

With the average age being 14 years, it should be illegal to be as talented as these 6 Queens. Individually and collectively they were on another scale, that you forgot you were watching an amateur youth performance. From the first word, Divorced, we knew that this was going to special. Nancy Pratt (Catherine of Aragon) Erika Rannus (Anne Boleyn) Isabella Chidlaw (Jane Seymour) Ella Rosewarne (Anna of Cleves) Imogen Danbury (Katherine Howard) and Millie Fawcett (Catherine Parr) treated us, the audience, with insane vocals that created the concert vibe and the fun that they were having on stage came over the footlights in abundance. Ian Price, Musical Director, must have worked so hard with these talented young performers. 

Charlotte McCamley’s choreography  was on point and suited each number. The staging and setting was simply perfect. Step forward and take a bow, Julie Whitfield, Director. The costumes, make up and hair in this production were second to non and beautifully interpreted the personalities of each Queen. 

I loved this production so much, I almost lost my head!
