This was a terrific production from WADAMS. The show is based on the motion picture of the same name and has an original musical score, written by ‘Little Shop’ wizard Alan Menken
Star of the show was undoubtedly Kim Fisher, playing the role of Doloris, a night club singer, who is witness to a cold blooded murder, is known to the villains and has to take refuge in a convent. Kim’s performance was a ‘tour de force’, she sang and acted superbly. All the other parts were very well played. Ann Hill was a very strait laced Mother Superior, she sang extremely well, and was more than match for Doloris in the comical convent scenes. Mike Hoggarth played the killer along with his three heavies, Jack Pike, Daniel O’ Hagan and Peter Mc Guckin, all very convincing. Eric Finlay was a suitably cast Monsignor and to be honest there wasn’t a weak link in the team.
There were some comical scenes with Doloris getting the Nuns chorus rocking, much to the wrath of Mother Superior. The choral singing, both plain song and the up tempo rock was superb, well done ladies, brilliant performance.
To be honest, there wasn’t a weak link in the team, an excellent nights entertainment, and very much appreciated by a very enthusiastic audience.
The director and choreographer did a splendid job with the ensemble and production numbers. The scenery was very good and the crew had done a marvellous job, getting the enormous set to work efficiently on the small Carnegie stage. Lighting was adequate but for my little nitpick, the sound was very loud at times
This was a splendid production from WADAMS, thank you so much for the invitation, it was a great pleasure to present long service medals to members at the end of the performance.
