WOW! This show started, literally, with a bang, and never stopped. Emma Ochia (Deloris) took on the part made famous in the film of the same name by Whoopie Goldberg and was excellent in her own portrayal.  The gangster boss Curtis (Brian James Leys) she saw murdering someone was also first-timing with Pantheon, and oozed menace, as the part required. Another Pantheon Virgin was Blair Cruickshank (Eddie, the cop who organised the stay in the convent) although he is a well known performer in Renfrewshire. I particularly enjoyed his costume-changing routine whilst singing — very slickly done! Matt Bingham (Monsignor O’Hara) and Melanie Taylor (Mother Superior) had their own disagreements about Deloris’s singing, but all worked well in the end, with the nun’s Chorus, after persuasion, sounding great. This huge cast, with many sub-principals, worked hard all during the show, the early Friday performance, and I was astounded, knowing they had another performance that same evening, then two on Saturday also. Having been a Pantheon member some years ago, it was heartening to know that the newer members still have as much dedication as way back, but that is obvious given the workload they give themselves. Catriona, Chris and Lynne made full use of the talent presented by Pantheon’s cast and this was appreciated by the reception given by the houses in each of the eight performances that week.
