Directed by Ellie Tripp & Jess Barras, Musical Director Alastair Hume, Choreographer Kristi Warne and Producer Charles Henry. It was whilst that I was a member of Milton Musical Society in the summer of 2000 that I first became the NODA representative for the Southern region. It is hard to believe that it was 25 years ago. Therefore it was indeed a pleasure to be asked to attend their 2025 production of “Sister Act”.
Because of the story line, the show seemed to have a slow start and it didn’t really start buzzing until the leading character “Delories” was hidden away in the convent. Once she got involved with choir, the show really took off with a bang and it kept on rising until we reached the absolutely fabulous finale. It was a well-cast show, led by a leading lady who was perfect for the role. I felt that each and every member of the company gave a superb performance throughout. Each principal was outstanding, with wonderful individual performances and some excellent characterisations. Lovely team work. The diction was very good and the comedy timing was superb. Some of the singing was absolutely amazing.
The set was kept very simple but the excellent lighting plot made the whole show sparkle. The show was well directed and I thought that the choreography was excellent and looked wonderful, whilst keeping well within the abilities of some of the older company members. In my opinion the orchestra was amazing and they made a wonderful sound, but it was very loud and they did over power some of the vocals in places, in particular at the start of the show. The audience clearly loved it and gave the company a well-deserved standing ovation at the end of the show.
My congratulations go to everyone one involved in this very enjoyable and outstanding production.
