This energetic comedy musical show depicting the story of night club singer witnessing a murder who is placed into hiding in a convent and turns their disastrous choir into a church winning phenomenon at her anonymity expense and is then found by the hoodlums was performed with great gusto by the adult members of this theatre group.  Past youth members, parents and the leaders of their youth theatre came together to give a heart-warming show in their small studio theatre with lovely set design to utilise limited stage space.

Lead role of Deloris Van Cartier was played by Emma Greenhalgh with lovely character, accent, dancing and pleasant voice, with great transition from singer to nun. Her two night club singers in the opening were Kate William's and Laura-Anne Walker, as Michelle and Tina respectively, gave good harmonies and glitz to their scene. Hapless police officer Eddie was performed by Dan Brookes with super singing voice and characterisation who transformed into hero with great gusto. Boyfriend gangster Curtis from Chris McCann was villainous, threatening, and lovely voice giving a great performance as the baddie in the story. His 3 comedy sidekicks dummies Joey(Dave Nisbet) and TJ (Andy Nisbet), and Spanish Pablo (Calum Priestly) all have great character to their role and lovely singing and great comedy in "Lady in the long black dress" that worked really well.  Hermione Wappat as Mother Superior had charismatic character with an air of supreme convent control and delivered some great comedy lines.  Sister Mary Robert's role was given by Hannah Gawthorpe with a sweet voice and demure character, and good expression in her "The life I never knew". Sister Mary Patrick was played by Louisa Culley with a vivaciousness and energy giving comedy character. Alex Gray as Sister Mary Lazarus mastered the intricate lyrics of her role and gave feisty character.  Jonny Stokeld playing Monsignor O'Hara was excellent in his character and accent.

The singing of the chorus was melodic in their harmonies and some lovely characters given too. Choreography from Louisa Culley was nicely devised and full cast numbers worked well. Costumes were all very apt for the period and habits were lovely with their glamour change working well.  Scene changes were well done and lighting nicely done with colours adding atmosphere.

Audience were enthusiastic throughout and finished with a standing ovation for the hard-working cast.  An enjoyable evening, thank you all.
